Canada emits just 2% of global greenhouse gases, and the emissions from oil sands contribute 0.16% to global emissions. For context, three coal-fired power plants in the United States emit more greenhouse gases than the entire oil sands industry.

The Keystone XL Project is a 36-inch-diameter crude oil pipeline, beginning in Hardisty, Alberta, and extending south to Steele City, Nebraska. This pipeline is a critical infrastructure project for the economic strength and energy security of the United States. Enhanced standards, powerful technology and independent reviews will ensure that Keystone XL is built and operated to uphold our fundamental commitment to safety and the communities we serve.
